Chef Rocco Dispirito Visits

Did you know that some fruit juices contain just as much sugar as soda?

Chef Rocco Dispirito visited Epiphany as WITS chefs Gisselle and Evie educated our students on sugar overload and the importance of drinking water.

Check out how much sugar we found in the following beverages:

Mountain Dew: 72.3 grams

Mug Root Beer: 66.9 grams

Coca-Cola: 62.5 grams

Ocean Spray 100% Cranberry Juice: 55.4 grams

Hawaiian Punch: 41 grams

Sunny D: 32.8 grams

Tropicana 100% Orange Juice: 28.3 grams

Gatorade Lemon-Lime: 23.2 grams

Now that’s a lot of sugar!

Instead of juice, Chef Gisselle encouraged students to eat your fruit instead. This way, we get all the fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals found naturally in the fruit.

As Chef Rocco reminded students, there is no better way to hydrate than drinking water. Our chefs recommended 8 glasses of water per day – a total of 1.9 liters!
